Alan Berman

Obituary of Alan J Berman

Humble, private, and at peace.

Alan Berman, age 61, died with his best friend of 42 years, by his side, his wife, Elaine (Rehfuss) Berman.

Born in Brooklyn, he lived in South Salem, NY for nearly 20 years. He was a member of the Hartsdale Fire Department for 25 years, both as a volunteer and fulltime member, and was fully committed to helping others.

Hilarious, witty, thoughtful, smart, joyful.  He was grateful for the beautiful lake outside his door, enjoyed music, photography, nature, fishing, art, reading, sports, design, woodworking, and the beauty of life.  He had many interests, a quick wit, great sense of humor and always pursued learning new things.  While many of us live to work, Alan worked to live and enjoyed all of his diverse endeavors.

He was loved by many – his local blues band members of Blues Corruption, college friends, fellow firefighters, and neighbors, especially his incredible group of friends known as “The Brotherhood”.  We owe a great deal of gratitude to those who helped us through this journey.

Alan was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his father, Herbert and his stepmother, Eleanor, his brother, Stephen (Amy), as well as a long list of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and his four legged friend, Smokey as well as many dear friends from his community, his band and work. He was predeceased by his mother, Rochelle Berman.

A celebration of Alan’s life has been scheduled for Friday, November 23rdfrom 12:00 to 3:00 at The Heights at Brother Vic’s, 920 Oakridge Commons, South Salem NY 10590.  All are welcome to attend.
