Obituary of Francis Patrick Mitchell

FRANCIS PATRICK  “P.J.” MITCHELL

 

WESTPORT – Francis Patrick “P.J.” Mitchell, 70, passed away July 10, 2018 at Norwalk Hospital following a long illness.

 

Born on November 24, 1947 in Bronx, N.Y. he was son of Eileen Mallon and Frank Mitchell.  After graduating high school, he pursued a number of interests, including surfing, music, writing, and painting.  P.J. was known for his beautiful oil paintings of seascapes and lighthouses, as well as abstract paintings. Innately talented and artistic, P.J. was self-taught in the disciplines he excelled at.

 

He joined the Merchant Marines in the late 60’s, and remained a Merchant Marine for several years, sailing the Seven Seas. It was during P.J.’s time at sea that instilled in him his love of painting ocean scenes.

 

One of the highlights of his life was making the journey to Bethel, N.Y. in August of 1969 for the historic Woodstock concert.

 

P.J. had been a Westport resident for more than 40 years, cherishing the friendships he made while living there. Survivors include his longtime partner Mel Miro; and his cousin, Jim Mallon.

 

Services will be announced at a later date.  Services are under the care of Mountain Oak Cremation Services.
