To my Uncle Frank, who we endearingly called Uncle Nickels because he always sent us silver dollars from Las Vegas for our birthdays. He was a man with a big heart, who loved his entire family, loved to laugh, and approached life in a carefree way. This experience with my Uncle has taught me that life is short, but over the last three months, my Uncle never lost his lighted hearted approach toward life. He joked, he laughed, he loved. We all could take a lesson from Uncle Nickels.
I'll miss talking sports, laughing about movies, and spending time together on family trips. I'll miss hearing your stories and your hilarious one-of-a-kind Nickel-isms. I'll remember all the times you made me laugh and happy. I'll remember when I was 6 or 7 and I scored a couple of goals in a soccer game, and my name appeared in the paper for the first time, and they misspelled Basone, they gave it two S's. As a young kid, I was naturally upset. However, my Uncle, who was at our house that day, made me feel better about it. He told me "Don't worry about it, they did that to all of us as kids. That's a bigger headline then when Michael Jordan retired." That was my Uncle, funny and caring. I'm grateful to have been able to call him my Uncle. I'll miss him greatly, and hope he's hanging with his partner Barbara Jo and his dog Scrubbers on a beach, enjoying a half a beer, i.e., a legendary Nickels-ism :).

How do I put 55 years of fun and wonderful memories in just a short paragraph. Frank was a dear, sweet friend to me....and I'd just like to thank his entire family for allowing me into their home and lives, at such a sensitive time, to share in his final days. Frank was very special to me....as are all of you.
Rest in peace my friend.

When looking back we have so many fond memories of my brother-in-law Frankie. Our sons called him Uncle Nickels because when they were young they would always receive a silver dollar on their birthday and some how it evolved into Uncle Nickels. We remember the fun travels with him to Saratoga Springs, NY, Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Los Angeles, CA and our home here in Connecticut. We enjoyed listening to his countless stories and adventures of the past. Frankie was a big movie and TV buff. We shared many laughs with some of his favorite TV shows like "South Park". When he would describe a scene of an episode he would break out into such a laugh telling it (you know that full belly laugh).Frankie loved the ponies, we would get a call from him each week sharing his picks. Frankie also loved the Yankees and loved to tease certain players when they were in a slump. Frankie was a kind and caring spirit who loved his family and his close friends. He shared many things with me towards the end, one that will stay with me forever he said "family was the most important thing in life" he realized that life is nothing more than a mist, you're here for a moment, and then you're gone. He said staying in peace and not fret over miniscule things is key to a happy life. I believe it to be true...So to say goodbye for now, I imagine that he is in heaven and has reunited with his beloved companion Barbara Jo, his faithful dog Scubbers and the rest of the family we lost over the years. Frankie, we will miss you and will always cherish the times we were together as a family. Rest in peace Uncle Nickels...rest in peace. xo

On behalf of the Brien McMahon High School, class of 1965, we share our condolences to Frank's family and friends. We looked forward to his visits to Connecticut when he would appear at our class reunions and dance the night away. We are saddened that we will not share laughs and his "bigger than life" personality anymore. Rest in peace, friend - we will not forget you!
